ADHERE HTV TO WOOD WITH CRICUT
In this tutorial, we will be showing you how to adhere HTV to wood. In the example, I have used a kitchen chopping board, but there are all sorts of wooden blanks you can choose from… wooden signs, furniture or even a garden fence! HTV is a material that is made to last but, if you are planning on placing your project outside, we do recommend you paint a little outdoor Modge Podge on your design to ensure it will withstand the harsh outdoor elements.

Materials
- Butterflies SVG
- A wooden blank (i.e. a chopping board)
- HTV (pink, blue, white)
Tools
- Cutting machine (Cricut maker, Silhouette, Explore or Joy)
- A Cricut Easy Press or iron
- Easy press mat or towel
- A Cricut light gip mat (blue) or standard grip green mat
- Weeding tool
- A fine-point blade
- Scraping tool
- Scissors

Instructions
- Upload the ‘butterflies’ SVG into Design Space. Highlight the SVG and click ‘insert image’ to move it into your canvas area. Resize the SVG to fit the front of your wooden blank. In this design, each butterfly is a separate layer (9 butterflies = 9 layers).
2. Change some of the colors! Highlight 3 butterflies and then click on colors in the top panel to change them. I changed 3 to blue, 3 to purple and 3 to white. Doing this means that the design will cut on 3 separate mats. Of course you have the option to cut all together on one mat (as I do in the tutorial and accompanying video). To learn how to do this click HERE. Otherwise, just cut the butterflies on 3 separate mats, with 3 separate colors.
3. Click ‘Make it’ and select ‘everyday iron on’ as your base material (HTV). Make sure that you MIRROR EACH ELEMENT OF YOUR DESIGN.
3. Load the vinyl on to your mat and cut each element. Make sure you load the HTV on to the mat shiny side up.
4. Weed each of your designs
5. Peel the butterflies from your mat and then cut up each with a pair of scissors ready to place on to your blank
6. Get ready to turn up the heat! Find the correct heat settings at Cricuts Official Heat Guide. Trust me – this is the best way to get the heat settings right for you, and your set-up. Place the wood on an easy-press mat or towel. Turn on your easy-press and pre-heat the wood with firm pressure. We pre-heated the wood for 5 seconds with firm pressure at 300F.
7. Position all of your butterflies on your blank (plastic side upwards). Take your time! You can angle them as in the design or arrange them as you wish! This is what’s so great with crafting. There are infinite ways to make a project!
8. Take your easy press and press with firm pressure. We pressed for 40 seconds at 300F and this worked well.
9. Wait for the design to cool and then peel the plastic liner from each of your butterflies.
10. Admire your gorgeous new design.
